Bryce Aubrey Zeiner

There will be no more posts on this site, if you care for an update about the sad fate of Bryce then click here.

This website and the post below was made on the night when we found out Baby El was a boy, only one day before we discovered Bryce's condition.

Bryce Zeiner at 20 weeks

Hello family and friends,

Did you think we actually would not have a blog for our second child too?

We thought we'd kick off this blog site with an exploration of a simple question: just how wrong can two experienced parents possibly be?

Very, at least with intuition.

After considerable discussion about all of the usual things couples have discussions about when thinking about expanding the family, we decided to start officially trying over the Christmas holiday.

"I just can't seem to shake this bug. I've had this stomach flu for about a week. [facial expression relaxes] Oh wow, I need to go to Walgreens!"

(20 minutes later, from behind the closed bathroom door)

"Um, honey..."

As it turns out, we're fertile people (n=2). Make that very fertile people. One more and we can assign error bars.

To personify our latest addition we decided to go with El the Embryo. Believe it or not the pre-name took us a few hours of back-and-forth to come up with. El is, of course, short for 'Elvis'. We figured El was sufficiently androgynous to cover either gender possibility.

Mama Zeiner had her suspicions that El would be a girl from very early on. There are a lot of reasons for this, but everything about this pregnancy has been different from the first pregnancy. In no particular order:

1. There have been no trips to the ER.
2. Morning sickness has been not-so-bad (but consistent well into the second trimester).
3. El appears to be a little more chill than Zane (not a hard thing to accomplish).
4. All of the women in Dianna's office were convinced it was a girl based on Dianna's wide hips.
5. Dianna's mood has been tracking closely with the developmental milestones of a female.

Today Dianna, Grandma Mouge and Gus went in for the 20-week ultrasound. Dianna brought in a blank card with her, and had the technician write down the gender of El. The plan was to allow Gus a few moments of knowing something that Mama Zeiner didn't, and for him to reveal the gender to Dianna at dinner later that night.

After much coaching Gus got Zane to say, "Bryce" in front of Dianna and Grandma. Yes, our son Zane actually told his mommy about his brother Bryce. It was so amazing! So, we're pleased to introduce you to Bryce Aubrey Zeiner...

We're excited, thrilled and in complete shock.

To celebrate, Dianna and Grandma Mouge bought some new threads for Bryce, as "Bryce deserves more than just Zane's hand-me-downs."

Much love to all.
